Easton Mako – Catcher’s Gear Review

Tuesday, November 12th, 2013

The Mako Catcher’s Set is designed with one thing in mind and that is speed– a common theme when it comes to any of the Mako products debuted by Easton this year.

The Mako Catcher’s Set comes with 3 pieces (Helmet, Chest Protector and Shin Guards) and it is made in 3 sizes (Adult, Intermediate and Youth).

The Helmet is designed to be snug to the head to prevent any rotation, therefore eliminating any chances that vision may be obstructed. The rear cap of the helmet is designed for high speed removal which allows for the helmet to roll off the head. This is crucial for times a catcher needs to react quickly to make split second decisions on the field. The Mako helmet is also equip with a shock absorbing frontal cage to help take away some of the impact when being hit by a ball.

The Chest Protector is lightweight and moves with your body. The Mako chest protector has wedges that will expand and contract when there is any type of movement therefore preventing any discomfort during each play. Within the chest protector, there is shock absorbing foam to help mute some of the impact received from the baseball and collisions. There are also large ventilation holes that makes the chest protector unquestionably one of the most breathable on the market for 2014.

The Shin Guards fit so well to the body that very little in game adjustments will be needed. The Conic Knee Cap design adds a considerable amount of stability while blocking. The inner knee pad provides much needed comfort to catchers when slamming their knees to the ground. Just like the helmet and chest protector, there is a great amount of ventilation within the padding of the shin guards that makes them very breathable during each practice and game.

The Easton Mako – Is it worth the hype?

Monday, November 11th, 2013

The Mako is the latest bat developed by Easton within their Power Brigade series. It made it’s debut appearance at the Little League World Series and has since been one of the most talked about bats on the market for 2014.

Easton is already well known for the S1 and XL1. The S1 provides some of the quickest bat speed through the zone of practically any baseball bat on the market. The XL1 is designed with a longer barrel which adds a massive sweet spot, which helps distribute more power to the hitter. Now, take those two bats and make one and you’ll have the Mako.

The Mako is the best of both worlds. The Mako is one of the fastest bats, with one of the biggest barrels through the zone. Even with the bigger barrel it still feels light when swinging it. Easton uses their new TCT or Thermo Composite Technology, which contributes to adding a massive sweet spot. The Mako has a faster swing speed than the S1 and a barrel size that matches up to the XL1. The Mako is a 2-piece design, built with Easton’s patented connection technology which maximizes energy transfer while isolating the barrel from the handle killing vibration and sting.

It’s hard to come across a baseball bat with this massive of a sweet spot that can also generate a considerable amount of bat speed. Without question, the Easton Mako is worth the hype and the price.

95 Years in the Making

Thursday, October 31st, 2013

It’s no secret that the Red Sox have won a couple World Series titles in recent years, however, none of those have been clinched within the walls of Fenway Park. In fact, last night was the first time since 1918 that Boston clinched a World Series in front of their home fans. Some fans waited 95 years to witness a World Series win at home, though most of them haven’t even been alive that long.

The last time Boston clinched a World Series at home gas was just 30 cents per gallon, a loaf of bread just cost 12 cents and World War I was fresh on the minds of every American. The last Red Sox team to celebrate a home World Series win had Babe Ruth on the roster. Even more notably,  the Red Sox traded away Babe Ruth following their 1918 win,  leading to the curse of the Bambino, which ended in 2004. Needless to say, Fenway Park waited for what seemed like an eternity for a World Series clincher at home. That wait came to an end last night as Boston fans witnessed a final out, which gave the Red Sox a long awaited home World Series win over the St. Louis Cardinals.

Reds Hire New Manager

Tuesday, October 22nd, 2013

It didn’t take long for the Reds to find a new manager after letting Dusty Baker go following another disappointing playoff run. The Reds front office looked within their organization and hired pitching coach Bryan Price. Price was the pitching coach for four seasons with the Reds and will replace Dusty Baker who was relieved of his managerial duties Oct. 3.

Before Price joined the Reds organization, he spent 10 seasons with the Mariners and D-backs as their pitching coach, this will be his first managerial position. Under Price, the Reds pitching staff had the fourth best ERA in the Majors and led the National League in strikeouts. The Reds and Price agreed to a 3 year contract.
