It didn’t take long for the Reds to find a new manager after letting Dusty Baker go following another disappointing playoff run. The Reds front office looked within their organization and hired pitching coach Bryan Price. Price was the pitching coach for four seasons with the Reds and will replace Dusty Baker who was relieved of his managerial duties Oct. 3.
Before Price joined the Reds organization, he spent 10 seasons with the Mariners and D-backs as their pitching coach, this will be his first managerial position. Under Price, the Reds pitching staff had the fourth best ERA in the Majors and led the National League in strikeouts. The Reds and Price agreed to a 3 year contract.

Jimmy Leyland has decided to step down as the Detroit Tigers manager after eight seasons at the helm. Leyland led the Tigers to two American League pennants with an overall record of 700-597 giving him a .540 winning percentage. Leyland was known for his no-nonsense approach to managing.
Leyland previously managed the Pirates, Marlins and Rockies and has managed nearly 3,500 games with an overall record of 1,757-1,711. In 1997 he led the Marlins to a World Series win over the Cleveland Indians in seven games. He is one of a few managers to have won pennants for an American League and a National League team.
Leyland made it clear in a Tiger’s press conference that he will not be retiring, but he will be working with the Tiger’s organization in a different role. This season was his 50th season managing in baseball.

On Wednesday night, Detroit Tigers third baseman Miguel Cabrera became only the 15th player in Major League history to capture the sport’s Triple Crown. Cabrera finished the regular season leading the American League in Batting Average (.330), Home Runs (44) and RBIs (139) to deliver the sport its first Triple Crown winner in 45 years, and the first ever achieved by a Latin-born player. The last Triple Crown was won in 1967 by Boston’s Carl Yastrzemski.
Cabrera and the Detroit Tigers now set their sights on loftier goals in the MLB Playoffs. Having won the AL Central Division, the Tigers will now match up with the young, upstart Oakland Athletics in the American League Divisional Series. The two teams begin a 5 game series in Detroit on Saturday October 6th with a 6:07 first pitch.
Miguel Cabrera reached the pinnacle of the sport swinging a custom Phoenix Wood Baseball Bat. Check out all Phoenix baseball bats at Baseball Rampage.

Arizona celebrates their CWS championship. (AP Photo/Eric Francis)
The Arizona Wildcats capped off a dominant College World Series Monday night in Omaha, Nebraska with their defeat of the South Carolina Gamecocks by a final of 4-1. South Carolina, seeking their third straight CWS title, could not get anything going offensively as they were limited to just 9 hits and 2 runs by Arizona pitching during the best-of-3 championship finals. A 5-1 Wildcats victory on Sunday night set the stage for the eventual title clinching win on Monday night. Tied 1-1 heading into the 9th inning, Arizona scored 3 runs in the top half of the inning leaving only 3 more outs for a title. The Gamecocks threatened in their final chance at the plate by loading the bases with only 1 out. But winning pitcher Matthew Troupe drew a line out and fly out to end the game and send the champion Wildcats rushing onto the field for a celebratory dog pile. Junior Robert Refsnyder collected Most Outstanding Player honors by going 10-21 with 5 RBIs and 6 runs, including the winning run in the final game, during the 5 games in Omaha. The title is the 4th in the history of the Arizona program with their last championship coming in 1986.
Arizona accomplished their championship run with a high scoring offense, powered by Louisville Slugger baseball bats. The same Louisville Slugger Omaha, Exogrid and Z-1000 models that were used by the Wildcats are available now at Baseball Rampage.
