Nike College Baseball Bats Problem

Wednesday, September 14th, 2011

As reported in ThePostGame by Yahoo Sports, Nike has released every college under contract from using their bats next season. None of the top 20 teams in college baseball used Nike bats this season. For those who did, power and offensive numbers were reportedly down significantly. Alabama’s baseball team has seen a decrease in offense by 86.6% over the previous 3 years.

Nike has pulled all college approved bats from their online store. The report doesn’t include any data on high school approved Nike bats. Visit ThePostGame to read more about the issue.

How To Choose Baseball Cleats and Spikes

Friday, April 22nd, 2011

Did you know Ty Cobb would sharpen his cleats in front of the opposing team to intimidate the opponent before games? He was also known to slide into a base with those razor sharp cleats pointed at the nearest body part of the tagging player as well. We’re pretty sure those kind of actions will get you arrested in this era but cleats are still a very important part of the game. Let’s find out how to choose baseball cleats.

Baseball cleats come in many different types, styles, and brands. The most common types of baseball cleats are metal, molded, and also a baseball turf shoe with styles in low, mid, and high. Each of those is available in adult and youth sizes. Brands that focus on baseball shoes include Reebok, Verdero, Mizuno, Under Armour, Easton and of course Nike.

Under Armour Metal Baseball Cleats

How do you select a baseball cleat? There are many different reasons you’ll choose one type of baseball spikes over another but the first place to look is the league in which you play. Most leagues have rules in place on what types you can wear and a lot of that will have to do with the type of field. Grass and dirt fields will most likely require a metal cleat while turf fields may require indoor molded cleats or turf shoes.

A lot of youth leagues require a rubber or plastic youth baseball cleats. Sometimes teams will require you buy a baseball shoe in a color that matches the team uniform. Metal cleats will provide the best traction but always check with the league or team prior to making a purchase.

Comfort is of course a big factor when you buy baseball cleats. Be sure to get a shoe that leaves enough room so you can wiggle your toes but not so loose where you may lose a shoe while running down a line drive.

Some baseball cleats have spike add-on and that’s something to consider when making your purchase. Screw-in baseball spikes can be added for additional traction and since they’re screw-in, you can easily replace them should they wear down.

Reebok Baseball Spikes - High N Tight

You’ve learned nearly everything there is to know about baseball cleats, spikes, and turf shoes. Now it’s time to go out and find a pair that works for you. Baseball Rampage carries Verdero, Reebok, Under Armour baseball cleats, Easton, and Mizuno baseball shoes in nearly any size, color, or option you could ever need. Earn RampageBucks Rewards with every purchase with free shipping over $99.

Looking for softball cleats, softball spikes, or turf shoes for women or men? Don’t forget to visit Softball Rampage for slow pitch and fastpitch softball shoes.

How Does A Pitching Machine Work

Wednesday, April 20th, 2011

The invention of the baseball/softball pitching machine has saved the arms of hundreds of thousands of pitching coaches around the nation. With the ability to adjust speeds along with the types of pitches and various other capabilities, pitching machines can now deliver batting practice to a full team without giving up their ability to improve their hitting skills.

The real question is how does a pitching machine really work? The answer to that question depends on what type of machine you’ve purchased. You can get versions including the scoop pitching machine, wheel pitching machine, and cannon pitching machine.

Each type of machine has positive and negative features and it will normally depend on the user which features they need the most to decide which to purchase. Check out the baseball pitching machine reviews online at Baseball Rampage or visit the softball pitching machine reviews at Softball Rampage to see what people think about various machines on the market.

Jugs Softball Pitching Machine

A scoop machine will use pulleys and hydraulics to propel a pitching machine ball toward the batter. The swinging scoop is very close to a pitchers arm motion. Most scoop machines can be pre-programmed for speed, pitch count, and height. Scoop machines are becoming less common as other technologies have become more prevalent in the space.

A wheel machine uses hydraulics and two wheels to propel the ball toward the hitter. Wheeled machines have also been designed to be used in some defensive drills including ground balls, pop-ups, and line drives. The flexibility of wheeled pitching machines has made them some of the most popular on the market.

Cannon machines are a third type and use a similar design as tennis ball machines. They also use hydraulics but the flexibility of cannon machines is much less than wheel machines. Speed can be designated on cannon machines with distances up to 90 feet in most cases.

Trend Sports Heater Heavy Duty Pitching Machine

You know how they work, now let’s learn more about the types of pitching machines available. Let’s discuss some of the finer points associated with them.

The majority of machines on the market have been designed to use electricity. While most city parks will have readily available electricity, quite a few rural parks may not which is why some battery operated machines are now available. Battery operated machines are normally smaller and may lack the features of electric powered machines.

Loading your pitching machine will vary on the model. Some offer automatic loading while others require hand loading – which should be combined with a net or screen to protect the person loading the pitching machines balls. Unless you’re operating a batting cage, you’ll most likely have to hand load your auto feeder machines as well.

Pitching machine balls come in all types and sizes. Before buying machine balls, be sure to know what type your machine can accept. Machines can use regular size baseball, smaller size balls for training, or softball pitching machine balls. Always know what type can be used by your machine to prevent damage or injury.

Now that you know a bit more about pitching machines and how they work, don’t forget to visit Baseball Rampage for Jugs pitching machine, Trend Sports pitching machine, and softball pitching machines at Softball Rampage. Here’s the best selling machines online:
